The best thing I love about makeup stores like Sephora and Ulta is that for $10 or less, I can always find some interesting new product to try in their “sample” section at the check-out counter. Now that I’ve turned 30, I seem to always be on the hunt for new wrinkle-fighting or wrinkle-tightening products. With that in mind, I recently picked up a 0.5 fl ounce sample of Peter Thomas Roth’s Instant FIRMx temporary face tightener.
With the texture a cross between serum and lotion, this product promises to instantly tighten, firm and smooth the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles and pores. The directions ask you to apply a thin layer of the product on freshly-cleansed, dry skin and then remain expressionless for 3-7 minutes while it sets.
I’ve been trying it for about a week now, putting it on after I wash and tone my face in the morning. While I’m waiting for the product to set, I usually blow-dry my hair.
So far it seems to be working. I definitely feel a tightening in my skin once it’s dry and the lines on my forehead and crow’s feet appear less visible. I then apply my regular face serum and moisturizer and then my make-up after that. The directions also suggest mixing it with your moisturizer or liquid foundation.
A full 1.7 fl oz. size of the product retails for $35, which seems pretty reasonable. I also want to try using it as a facial masque where you apply a thicker layer and leave it on for an hour for more dramatic results.
So is it worth it? For this stage in my life, it seems pretty worth it. It’s not a huge hassle to add one more step in my morning routine, and until I need to undertake some more serious measures to combat wrinkles (i.e. Botox or Juvederm), this product seems to give me that extra wrinkle-fighting boost while not making a huge dent in my wallet.
