WHY? It takes about five minutes to develop a serious girl crush on MaryJayne. Her energy and passion for innovation at all levels of society are infectious. She also founded the Sacramento Hashtag Project, which uses hyper-local hashtags – #midtownSac #OakPark #MansionFlats etc – to help small businesses, residents and visitors connect and discover more about Sacramento’s neighborhoods. She’s super involved in the community and always ready to help organizations/people collaborate to develop local solutions to local challenges.
BETCHA’ DIDN’T KNOW:
–3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE SACRAMENTO? Fresh, Open, and Enthusiastic
–FAVE LOCAL CAUSE? The California Food Literacy Center. They’re teaching kids to eat healthy in the #FarmtoFork Capital.
–WHICH SACRAMENTO WOMAN INSPIRES YOU? I’m inspired by women whose ever-evolving new ideas and fresh perspectives ignite and challenge my own way of thinking. Women like Aimee Darville, Emma Fletcher, Laura Braden, Maya Wallace, and Elaine Fok. Unfortunately, inspiring women also tend to be busy women.
–WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE IN SACRAMENTO IN 5 YEARS? More greenspace, edible landscaping, rooftop gardens, and patio dining!
–FAVORITE SACRAMENTO “GUILTY PLEASURE”? Reading is my favorite indulgence. My goto Saturday afternoon guilty pleasure is a leisurely pint of craft beer and a good book out on the patio at the Old Soul at the Weatherstone.
–IF I WASN’T IN MY CURRENT CAREER… I’d be a bee-keeping wheatgrass-growing orchard-tending organic farmer….
–LADY MENTOR GROWING UP? My mother. She taught me fearlessness, resilience, and to have a sense of humor.
–BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED? Life is short, invest your time wisely building things that actually matter.
–ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO A SACRAMENTO WOMAN IN HER 20′S? Embrace failure. Fail early, fail often, just don’t fail the same way twice.
