When I think of BINGO, I think of old, gray-haired church ladies. I never imagined it could be one raunchy hell of a time!
Recently, I made it out to “Drag Queen Bingo” at Hamburger Patties (1630 J Street), which is held the first Thursday night of every month by Outward Magazine.
Those without a sense of humor need not apply. You have to be ready to roll with the punches, flirt and get insulted. They make the winners don a wig and boa and run through the restaurant…while they’re pelted with the losers’ games cards. Needless to say, this isn’t your standard bingo – and I loved it!
I actually won along with 2 others so I got to pick from the “bag-o- crap.” My trophy? A pregnancy test.
They also have “callbacks”, which essentially means the crowd shouts out one-liners depending on the number called. Not surprisingly, the crowd’s favorite was “0-69” and the callback was “Shots! Shots! Shots!” (and then everyone proceeds to buy $1 shots). Bonus for first-timers – they give you a cheat sheet.
Drag Queen Bingo has been a staple in Sacramento for over two years. The cost for all games is $15, and the proceeds benefit various local, registered and non-profit charities. Fred Palmer, with Outward Magazine, said they will surpass the $50,000 mark at the next bingo, on Thursday, May 3 (to benefit the Gay Softball League). Games start at 7 pm, but tables start filling up by 6 pm. Oh, and the June 7th charity is the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services.
Hope to see you all there!

That actually sounds like a really intersting combination of bingo and Rocky Horror, I’m quite tempted.
