Sacramento’s frugal foodies have just hit the payload. And let me tell you – for those of us out there who enjoy amazing food at reasonable prices, Dine Downtown Restaurant Week is, quite possibly, the tastiest week of the year.
I’m the Marketing Manager for the Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP), which is the organization producing Dine Downtown, and I have been absolutely in love with the event since day one.
As producers of Dine Downtown, we work with some of the best restaurants on grid to create an event offering fabulous food at an unbelievable price while supporting businesses that have invested in this great city we call home.
Sacramento’s first Dine Downtown launched in October 2005. After some modifications, the promotion was re-launched in January 2007 with 17 participating restaurants and was a huge hit. Ever since, Dine Downtown has grown as more restaurants sign on and Capital City foodies come out in full force to experience it all.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT TOO:
This year marks the 5th annual Dine Downtown Restaurant Week, which runs from January 8 through 17 and boasts 35 restaurants offering $30 3-course menus for an extended 10 days.
That’s right – $30 for 3 courses – at places like The Firehouse Restaurant, Grange at The Citizen, Mulvaney’s B&L and Ella Dining Room & Bar. Now, my testimony may sound slightly biased based on who signs my paychecks, but I’ll have you know that I am a true lover of food.
I have sampled some amazing Dine Downtown menus over the past several years and I – along with my husband, my friends, my family and anyone else I can take with me – can honestly vouch each restaurant’s need to please. The restaurants participate as a way to show us what they’re made of. Most see the promotion as a way to prove to new and regular customers, alike, that they have what it takes to do it up right.
My first Dine Downtown experience in 2007 was at Brew it Up! Personal Brewery & Grill. I can remember my surprise when I found out they were featuring entrées like grilled rack of lamb and duck marsala – I couldn’t believe a brew pub was offering such refined choices. My husband and I decided to go and we were not disappointed. I opted for the crab stuffed portobello mushroom for starters and the rack of lamb for my entrée, while my husband decided on the smoked salmon crepes and the duck marsala. We ended the meal with two of the largest pieces of Irish Crème Chocolate Cake I’ve ever seen. Needless to say when we left – doggy bags in hand – we were happily full and ready to try the next restaurant on our list.
Over the past several weeks, the menus have poured into my email inbox and I’ve felt as though I’ve had the inside scoop. Upon receipt, I have been known to squeal a little and immediately read them aloud to my co-workers. It can’t be helped. The choices are amazing and I know that even if the menus offer similar courses, the delivery, ambiance and execution will always be deliciously unique.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

I’m also a reluctant runner (two CIM’s under my belt, and it still takes some serious motivation to get me to hit the streets) and a lover of all things creative. I was born in Sacramento and raised between here and Crescent City, California. I returned to Sacramento in 2000 and currently live in West Sacramento with my husband and two “kids” – a basset hound named Rooc and a black lab named Zen.
