Found: Yummy Treats for the Heat

With the summer dry heat right around the corner (supposed to reach 91 today!), I figured it was the perfect time to give a breakdown of my favorite options for cool treats to beat the heat on the grid!

Yogurtagogo

Midtown (corner of 19th & L St.) My office used to be around the corner from this place, which meant that I went through quite a large number of punch cards. They also have a “happy hour” from 5-6pm Monday – Friday. The deal? $2.00 for all-you-can-fit-in-a-cup! Bonus – they stay open until midnight on Friday and Saturday and they deliver to offices in Midtown!!

Big Spoon Yogurt

East Sac (3644 J St.) and Land Park (4001 Freeport Blvd.) – Open since 2005, Big Spoon specializes in options: dozens of flavors and over 75 toppings. Bonus – if you’re a non profit or planning a casual fundraiser, their staff have a variety of support programs to help.

Leatherby’s

Arden (2333 Arden Way) – Not on the grid, but worth the trip. Family owned since 1982, this place is for serious enthusiasts only: sundaes as big as your head, milkshakes served in a bucket (ok, not really – but they’re huge!) and regular items like sandwiches and burgers.

Pinkberry

Arden (2100 Arden Way) - Also not on the grid, but worth the trip (Nordstrom Rack is also in the shopping center so you can knock a few birds with one stone). If Leatherby’s is “old school,” then Pinkberry defines the newest wave of frozen yogurt because they place an uber-emphasis on healthy and fresh ingredients (fruit toppings are chopped up after you order it).

Others include…

Don’t skip Mochii on 16th at P Street. They have a great authentic tart yogurt – their homemade Zang flavor. Add fruit for a low cal, low sugar treat that’s not full of aspartame.
