Artists and art lovers rejoice, the Sacramento art scene is expanding once again! Already gaining a name for itself in creating innovative spaces, Sacramento is preparing to do it again with a week-long mural festival held next month.

The Sacramento Mural Fest (Facebook, Twitter) is presented by Friends of the Arts Commission (Friends), a non-profit organization established in 1977 to support the work of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, and is curated by co-founders LeBasse Projects and David Sobon of David Sobon and Associates.

#SMF916 kicks off on August 20th and culminates on August 27th with ArtJam 2016, the signature fundraising event for Friends of the Arts Commission. More than a dozen murals will be painted throughout the city to activate areas in Downtown and Midtown Sacramento. Tours, lectures, and conversations about public art, design and murals will take place throughout the week and proceeds from the festival will benefit arts education.

There was an overwhelming amount of interest from local and international artists alike. All of this year’s artists have been secured. However, the commission is accepting applications for volunteers to help with logistics as well as those who would look to help execute production while working side by side with the incredible SMF artists.

We can’t wait to see what the artists create.

These are so cool! It’s awesome driving around and being surprised by all the new murals all over downtown. The Ridge Golf Course up in Auburn doesn’t have anything like that unfortunately :/.
