It’s your lucky day! Today is National Wine Day.  Now, we know there is a National Day for everything under the sun, but considering all of us ladies REALLY love our wine, we couldn’t pass up an excuse to raise our glasses in celebration of the drink of the gods and goddesses.

To help you make the most of May 25th, and all those other days you find yourself yearning for a glass of vino, we compiled a quick list of our favorite spots.

This list is by no means comprehensive, but it covers a bunch of our top favorites around the grid, including our Pro Tips for each spot.  Please add your suggestions in the comments so we can add your faves to our list of places to unwind.

*Celebrate National Wine Day HERE for usual deals!

For a Romantic Date

The Grand *– Excellent people watching from this patio on one of the grid’s busiest corners, The Grand is the coziest of all the wine spots in Sacramento. The staff is always eager (and knowledgeable!) and ready to match you with your perfect glass. Pro Tip: $5 glasses of wine from 5-7 pm Monday through Friday.

58 Degrees *– Head here for your perfectly chilled glasses from their state of the art pouring system.  They have a great Wine Wednesday special – from 5 to 7pm, you get 4-6 wine tastes for $15.  Or buy a bottle and taste for FREE. Pro Tip: Hands down the BEST Mac and cheese in town.

A Place to Unwind with your Kids:

The Federalist – Bocce Ball and cookies for the kids; wood fired pizza and wine for you!  This place has an awesome brunch bingo on Saturdays and wine served in mason jars for minimum spillage. Pro Tip: After 9 pm, or when temps hit 100+ degrees, Sangria is only  $4.

The Shack – A chill fenced in patio perfect for kids!  (Did someone say toddler cage?!) The veggie burger is amazing and their menu includes tons of comfort foods. With a varied, reasonably priced wine list (nothing over $10 a glass), this is a perfect place for any wino to take their beer-loving friend or significant other. Bring a favorite game and between that and all the local pooches that call this place home, your kids should be more than entertained. Pro Tip: We tried the 2009 Sangiovese from Amador and at $7.50 a glass you would be hard pressed to find a better summer drink.

For a Big Group

Block Butcher Bar – This is THE spot for big groups, IF (and that is a BIG if) you can score a spot on their epic patio.  Otherwise, these guys are perfect for a date or girls night out, as Low Brau’s brother from the same mother is one of Sac’s tiniest establishments. You are sure to run into plenty of people you know hanging out outside while sitting on a sunny picnic table. The wine selection rotates often, but recently we were in love with Educated Guess Cab!  Pro Tip: 50% off Bottles after 4:00pm on Sunday!  A $13 bottle of Prosecco is a legit  deal.

Hot Italian – Their big tables are perfect for birthdays and watching international futbol matches. They have a limited wine selection, but you are welcome to bring your own bottle for a cork fee of only $10 per bottle. Pro Tip: A carafe of house wine is only $26 bucks, and we totally vouch for their prosecco cocktails to take the heat off of a hot afternoon.

Girls Day/Night Out

The Rind * – There is hardly a better evening than a shared a cheese board with a few good girl friends. The Rind always has an EXCELLENT cheese selection and their staff is fun and impressively informed about what wines will go best with your cheese choices. Pro Tip: Wine Wednesdays are a must at The Rind – Buy a Bottle of wine ($30+) and get a free cheese board!

The Grange – Sacramento’s only four star boutique hotel, The Grange at The Citizen Hotel boasts a sunny corner locale, perfect for grabbing $6 house wine during happy hour from 4:00p to 6:00p.  Pro Tip: Eye candy is always free at The Grange and you never know what hot out of towner you may rub elbows with at the bar.

On a Budget…But like a Wine Budget

Selland’s Market Cafe – Rotating every week is the deal of all deals in Sacramento. Dinner for two and a perfectly paired bottle of wine is only $25! This whole deal is maybe our favorite local Pro Tip of all time. (We are hoping for a similar special at Selland’s new and much anticipated OBO location on Alhambra and Folsom.  #fingerscrossed)

One Speed – East Sac for the win on these dinner for two and a bottle deals. Our second favorite budget buy is the Take Out Tuesday for $32. Pizza, Salad and a bottle of wine! Pro Tip: If you want to dine in they have $5 glasses or $26 carafes of house red or white made specifically for them by Revolution (white) or Vino Noceto (red).

Other local wine spots of note:

Whired Wine * – Located across from the future home of the Golden One Center is Sacramento’s newest wine bar, boasting 50% off Bottles on Wednesdays

Bandera – Just outside the grid, long time favorite Bandera has great eats and no cork fee when you bring your own bottles (up to 2 per party!)

Old Sugar Mill – If you’re longing for a wine country trip, look no further than the Old Sugar Mill in the cute river town of Clarksburg, barely ten miles outside the grid and featuring eleven wineries, including our favorites Elevation Ten, Todd Taylor, Perry Creek and Beringer.

Also located in Clarksburg are Miner’s Leap, Julietta, Scribner Bend and everyone’s go to favorite for Chardonnay and Old Vine Zin, Bogle.
