Sacramento’s Best Reason to Give Your LBD a Break

The little black dress is over.  I said it.  OVER.  Well maybe not over but for one night leave that overused under accessorized garment in the closet.

Here’s why.

Saturday October 17th is the LGBT Community Center’s Red Dress Party and Lavender Heights will be taken over by divas (or those of us who wish we were divas) to support the Community Center in their fight to create more awareness for HIV/AIDS Education.

Excuse to buy a new dress? Yep.  Does it need to be red? Duh.  The color red, found on the red ribbon, serves as a global symbol of HIV/AIDS.  Don’t be that person who shows up in gold trying to steal the show.  With drag performances by Manila Luzon, Ongina, and Au Jus, you don’t stand a chance anyway.

Not sure what to rock for the event?  Well it’s not a drag show so full drag is not required but is definitely encouraged.  A red dress is required so my personal advice is the more sequins the better and if you’re like me and wanna make sure you look as good as the other people in Badlands definitely go with Spanx.  Bonus points if they’re red.

Wanna up your game?  Get a VIP ticket that includes express entry starting at 8 p.m (more time to scope out if anyone is wearing the same dress as you), two complimentary alcoholic beverages (so you can say you only had two when you really had six), complimentary coat check (that you’ll probably forget your coat in because of the two complimentary cocktails), VIP gift bag (free swag is always a yes), and access to a hosted VIP lounge including premium hors d’oeuvres, desserts and the RDP photo booth (so you can document that sparkling new dress).  It’s a win-win.

You get to support a great cause while dancing the night away at Badlands with the best dressed group in town. Need more convincing?  Just look at the pictures from last year.

How do you score a ticket? Information can be found and tickets purchase at or in-person at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center.

Tickets are $55 for general admission or $95 for VIP. Also, check out their Facebook at and on Twitter at @SacRDP.
