Have a One Night Stand for a Good Cause
By Chelsea Irvine
It’s February and you know what that means… It’s V Day! No, not Valentine’s Day (you know me too well by now to think I care about that). February means it’s V Day, the annual production of the Vagina Monologues in Sacramento and throughout the country. I had the opportunity to sit and chat with one of the directors, C.M. Foster, a local mover and shaker.
Here are the details:
In Sacramento, there are a few productions happening , but the main event will be held at the Crest Theater on February 28th at 8:00pm (doors open at 7:00p) for the ridiculously reasonable price of $20.
Based on Eve Ensler’s play and backed by an amazing cast, the Vagina Monologues are basically a hadful of women telling stories. The cast of just over 20 women from vary socioeconomic statuses and backgrounds will keep you laughing, and occasionally on the verge of tears.
V Day is a huge fundraising event in Sacramento and this year it benefits three of Sacramento’s local charities: Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH), Sacramento Women Take Back the Night and the Gender Health Center. The charities are picked on a variety of criteria, but this year the need is especially significant for these charities. Without ongoing support, some of these charities could be forced to close their doors.
In anticipation of the big show, the cast is putting on a “One Night Stand” cocktail reception this Monday, February 23rd. Hosted by OneSpeed and the Waterboy, you can enjoy a night of cocktails, tasty appetizers and a silent auction full of great Sacramento swag. The event runs from 7:00p-10:00p and is only $50 per ticket. We know Sacramento loves to party with a purpose, and this is a great opportunity to support some Sacramento charities offering critical services to local women, men and children.
Tickets to the One Night Stand can be purchased at http://saconenightstand15.bpt.me/. This year, the cast and crew are hoping to raise the bar on giving, with a goal of $25,000. They know Sacramento rallies together for those in need, and we know these events are going to be some to remember. We hope to see you there.
