Oak Park Brewing Company Opening
By Kelly Conroy
The new brewery in Oak Park is awesome.
After watching construction on the new brew-pub on Instagram for months, I was definitely curious to check out the finished product at the Oak Park Brewing Company Preview Weekend. For two straight days, this garage-borne brewing company opened their doors, their taps, and their kitchen to Sacramento for a sneak peak at the deliciousness inside.
With a special food menu (including vegetarian gumbo, thankyouverymuch) and a beer list that made it almost impossible to choose, the mechanics of the place were easily agreeable. The beer I tried had serious chocolate-coffee flavors and I happily sipped all 16 ounces of it. But what really sold me were the insanely friendly staff and the easy-going Sacramento vibe. I immediately felt like it belonged in our city.
As soon as we walked up to the entrance, we were greeted with a smile and a, “Welcome to Oak Park,” as the door was opened for us. The interior feels like a place you’d want to hang out – comfy leather couches, big tables to share, and interesting wood and metal details to discover. Even though the bar was bustling with customers, information on the beers was readily available and every bartender was patient and helpful. We grabbed our beers and headed out to the gigantic patio.
Oak Park Brewing Company sits on one of Oak Park’s interesting corner lots on Broadway & 35th. And what better use for an awkwardly shaped space than an open-air patio to enjoy your beer? From live guitar music to overhead mood lighting, this Saturday night patio vibe became one of my favorite things about the place. Even the staff that bussed the dishes went out of their way to be friendly while we enjoyed the autumn air and the chocolate-coffee beer.
I can’t wait to head back to Oak Park Brewing Company to try their full food menu and expand my beer horizons with another interesting brew.
