Event Preview: Sacramento Specialty Coffee Week

By Maria Hill

As a city, Sacramento loves a good food celebration. From the recent Farm to Fork week to Sacramento Beer Week to Bacon Fest, it is pretty obvious that the way to a Sacramentan’s heart is through our stomachs. Recently local coffee roasters teamed up to launch a week long tribute to our favorite morning beverage, and we could not be more excited.

Sacramento Specialty Coffee Week runs October 13-19 and will celebrate our communities enthusiasm for locally roasted specialty coffee. At this point you might be asking yourself “what the heck is specialty coffee?” The term “specialty coffee” is not specific to a certain type of bean, drink, or brewing method but rather the overall coffee experience. You see, by the time you order a drink at a cafe the coffee has traveled through a pretty intricate supply chain. The events being held during Sacramento Specialty Coffee week are designed to help people learn first hand about the farm to cup journey, and taste some really delicious coffee.

From Q&A sessions with coffee farmers, to brewing classes that will up your home coffee game, to coffee and food pairings (read as: oh yes, there will be coffee beer) there is sure to be something that every coffee lover can get excited about.  The best part about Sacramento Specialty Coffee Week? Most of these events are FREE, seriously. For a full rundown of events you can check the official calendar.
