Review: Ruhstaller's #downtownSac Tasting Room
There’s a little gem in the basement of 630 K Street that has a chill vibe, plenty of comfy seats and delicious (LOCAL) beer … and that place, ladies and gents, is Ruhstaller’s new tasting room (Facebook, Twitter).
They welcome visitors on an appointment-only basis Th/Fr/Sa between 3-9pm. To make a reservation, call 916-447-1881 or via email (brewery AT ruhstallerbeer.com).
Co-owner Mellissa Cleveland-Paino was kind enough to offer GOTG writers/readers a semi-private tasting party … and we were happy to oblige. 🙂
Here’s the scoop:
The Vibe: Super chill and rustic. The main room has tall/communal tables great for meeting new people or hosting larger happy hours. They have a side room complete with vintage living room furniture and a pool table. GOTG writer Leia described it as “an adult blanket fort.” Definitely a great place to hang out!
Price Range: We received four tasting pours (out of seven options) for $10.
What to Wear: Come as you are – we saw folks in suits, shorts and everything in between.
What to Order: The menu changes often, and they offer small batch/experimental brews. Hands down, my favorite was the wine-beer (10% abv). It tasted a bit like wine, champagne, beer and Kombucha all rolled into one. It was light, crisp and refreshing! The Arendt California Tripel (9.5% abv) was also delicious, rich and sweet.
Who’s Behind the Yumminess? Mellissa and her husband – General Manager Jan Erik Paino – own and run Ruhstaller. They utilize local farmers, and own several acres of farmland off of I-80. They’ve added event space to their farm and have plans to have a 5,000 barrel production brewery up and running by 2015 (more details here). Not bad, considering the rich history of the Ruhstaller brand dates back 131 years!
