Taste of the Little City – Benefiting Children's Health and Safety Programs
By Heather Philpott (Guest Blogger)
Grab an UBER and get off the GRID for an evening to Sip, Sample & Savor Sacramento’s local wines, craft brews & unique eats. Stroll the streets of Sacramento’s miniature city, Safetyville USA at the 13th Annual Taste of the Little City on Thursday, May 8th from 5:30pm-8:30pm. In addition to all the delicious eats and drinks the evening includes a premier silent auction, live music and entertainment. All proceeds from the annual fundraiser benefit the Children’s Safety & Health Education Programs at Safety Center Incorporated.
The goal of the Children’s Safety & Health Programs is to reduce injury and possible death of children resulting from preventable accidents, as well as lessons in healthy eating options, exercise, nutrition, and dental hygiene. The programs are taught inside Safetyville USA, a 3 ½ acre miniature town, complete with 1/3 scaled buildings, paved streets, sidewalks, railroad tracks, stop signs & working traffic signals. There are hospitals, restaurants, a school, a dentist office, a California State Capitol building, miniature municipal buildings, business buildings, and police, CHP, & fire stations. All of which are used to teach specific safety and health skills.
