(Adult) Prom to Benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento

By Laura Braden

We’ve all been to our fair share of stuffy events to benefit local organizations. You know the ones I’m talking about – dry chicken dinners with unimaginative event themes featuring tired bands playing unrecognizable music.

… The LS 13 Prom (happily) breaks the mold.

The Back Story:

Club-remix-logo-colorThe LS 13 Prom is the brain child of Leadership Sacramento, which is a program of the Metro Chamber to “develop community-minded business and civic leadership.” Each year, 35 participants are chosen for a year-long program that provides “a behind-the-scenes understanding of the issues that impact the region’s economic prosperity, quality of life and culminates in the completion of a community betterment project” (Applications for 2014 can be found here.)

The 2013 class chose the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento as the beneficiary of their class project and is transforming the downtown Raley Branch site into a dedicated Teen Center. From BGCSac:

Due to an increase in after-school programs for elementary students, there is less of a need to provide programs serving young children at the downtown site. However, there are few after-school programs dedicated for teens; therefore, there is a significant need to provide more programs to high school-aged students. The Boys & Girls Club’s Downtown Branch, soon-to-be-named The Club, will provide a series of after school activities that will give teens access to resources and professionals to help them develop skills in careers surrounding the fine arts, fashion design, culinary arts and much more.

 Pretty cool, right?

But they need our help to turn these concepts into reality.

All About LS 13 Prom:

To help raise funds for this innovative project, Leadership Sacramento is hosting an adult prom – complete with “Beyond the Sea” theme – this Saturday night.

  • EVENT: “Beyond the Sea” Prom
  • WHEN: Saturday, October 26 from 6:30pm-11pm
  • WHERE: Raley Branch of the Boys & Girls Club (1117 G Street)
  • TICKETS: $75.00/person (Purchase here.) (GOTG SPECIAL: $25 off tickets by using code FriendofLS!)

Ticket price includes HOSTED beer/wine, heavy appetizers from Tuli Bistro and Restaurant Thir13en and late night eats from the Wicked Wich food truck. UBER has provided $30 off your ride (new customers only – use code LS13REMIX). There’ll also be a silent auction and after-party hosted by Restaurant Thir13en.

The Boys & Girls Club estimates that this project will help them serve at least 300 Sacramento teens each year. Combine that with Leadership Sacramento’s killer theme, and you have one hell of an event for an incredible cause.

Hope to see everyone on Saturday!

PS – If you want to help Leadership Sacramento transform the Raley Branch, sign up to volunteer on November 2.
