Uber Is Now Cheaper – And Lyft Is Coming To Sacramento

By Laura Braden

Uber Updates…

Great news for fans of Uber (Facebook, Twitter) – it’s now a whole lot cheaper to look a whole baller.

Check out GOTG’s original review on Uber here.

uberAs of today, Sacramentans can now utilize UBERx, which is the company’s cheaper, hybrid car service. Fares are 16 percent lower than the average taxi, and sample fares include….

  • Midtown to Land Park $12
  • East Sac to Tahoe Park $13
  • The Grid to SMF $35 (flat rate)
  • Downtown to Midtown $9
  • Midtown to Arden Arcade $32
  • Pricing structure: Base fare $4, no minimum fare. Per min: $0.45, Per mile: $3

Sample cars include the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic and Ford Escape Hybrid. UBERx drivers make up to $25/hr – based on the recent ruling of California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), people who jump through all the necessary hoops (background checks, vehicle and insurance inspections) are eligible to drive their own cars for UBERx.

Lyft is Hiring…

pink_610x483If you start to see cars on the Grid sporting a fluffy pink mustache, don’t panic – it’s simply a new “ride share service.” Ride sharing services are companies that let users order rides from drivers who are driving their own cars.

And in another sign that Sacramento is joining the ranks of cities like New York and San Francisco, Lyft (Facebook, Twitter), is now hiring drivers in Sacramento.

Lyft focuses on “regular car owners who want to help their friends and meet new people.” Average rides are $10, and drivers go through a lengthy background check to ensure safety. Drivers make at least $20/hour, and you can apply here.

No word on when the service officially launches in Sacramento so stay tuned. I’m thinking about signing up just because I like to try new things; but if any ladies do this, let me know so we can profile you!
