Tonight: Midtown Public Safety Meeting
By Laura Braden and Amelia McLear
In response to a slew of armed robberies and other crimes throughout Midtown Sacramento, local leaders and activists are holding a public safety meeting tonight.
Here’s the scoop:
- When: Thursday, January 10 – 6:30-8:30pm
- Location: Hart Senior Center, 915 27th Street
- Attendees: Councilmember Steve Hansen, Sacramento Police, the Midtown Business Association, and Marshall School/New Era Park Neighborhood Association
It’s important that we all attend because the goal is to collect feedback on how real Midtown residents feel about crime and ideas for improvements, as well as discuss tips on being prepared and staying safe in our community.
Our bottom line? It’s up to each of us to stay alert and protect the reputation of our city – and the safety of our neighbors. Growth and development can lead to an uptick in crime. But this isn’t Oakland – the economic and quality of life benefits we reap with more restaurants, shops, bars and festivals in Midtown (for now) greatly outweigh the alternatives. Should that ever change, we’ll be one of the first to speak up.
Witness a crime or something shady? Call the police dispatch center at 916-264-5471 or Crime Alert at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be texted to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers/texters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
And for more information on the public safety meeting, call Jameson Parker at 916-808-5241.
