October is ARTober in Sacramento

By Laura Braden and Heather Philpott

We are dying…dying…DYING to write about fall fashions, pumpkin spiced lattes and trips to Apple Hill, but with temperatures in the high 90’s, it seems a tad premature.

In the meantime, we’ll celebrate the fact that Midtown is going to be alive with arts and culture the entire month of October.

For the second year (and as part of National Arts & Humanities Month), the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission(SMAC), the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB), Sacramento365.com, and For Arts Sake (FAS) are collaborating to bring attention to over 150 art events (from poetry slams to musicals to art exhibits) throughout Sacramento’s streets, stages, galleries museums parks…

Having a hard time choosing? Here are GOTG’s favorites:

Thursday, 10/4 – Opera at the Crest

  • 7:3pm – Crest Theatre, 1013 K Street ($30 – tickets)
  • Organizers: Sacramento Opera and Philharmonic
  • This event was a huge hit last season and sold-out at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacramento, so this year Sacramento Opera has moved the festivities to the Crest Theatre to better accommodate audiences. Opera at The Crest will feature the “best of the best” — popular and favorite arias, duets, and ensembles taken from the top 10 most popular operas voted on by Sacramento Opera patrons this summer.
