Live, Work and Love with a Purpose: Shining a Spotlight on Grid Girls doing Good

By Kira Heinrichs

Take a second to envision your dream job. Think about where you’d be, what your office would look like (if there is one), who your colleagues would be, what your long-term and short-term goals would be and finally, what you purpose would be. Are you happy in that place? Are you surrounded by inspiration and loving every minute of it? Are you giving back to a cause you care deeply about?

I want to introduce you to two wonderfully inspirational women who are living their dream and making a difference right here on the Sactown grid: Marisa Minasian and Terry Buccat, the designers of MTX (Morris & Terry Athletic).

Working hard to make their own dreams come true, Morris & Terry are using their undeniable gifts to create fashionable and functional pieces that are athletically inspired and perfect for the yoga studio or lounging. You can shop the line on their website (clicking any of the pics below will take you there), or find it on the grid at Asha Yoga and Article Consignment.

My personal favorites from their spring 2012 collection are the MTX Gym Bag and Pullover, both are seriously well-made and downright fantastic. Available together in a package deal, they read:

“100% made in CA. for the California girl; we live for the sun and the 6am vinyasa; for the highest of heels and those mini skirts; there is more to us than bikinis and designer clothes; we believe in our dreams and in the impossible; we believe in positive change; we believe in today”.

For fall 2012, I’m most looking forward to getting my mitts on the Berry Capri Pant and Nautical Tank (ships July).

The BEST part: MTX has made a commitment to design pieces each season from which 100% of the proceeds go to help Sacramento-area foster children, a cause very close to their hearts. For Spring 2012 it was the canvas gym bag, and for Fall it’s their Give Back Tank. In their words: “Giving Back is Always in Fashion.”

Take a few minutes today to be inspired by these awesome GOTGers: read their story (in their own words) by following  their journey on FB, read more about their personal stories and what drives MTX to give back here, or get straight to the goods and browse their brand new Fall 2012 Catalog here.

The clothes look cool (thanks for writing about this inspiring duo), but I think this line is sending mixed messages:

“100% made in CA. for the California girl; we live for the sun and the 6am vinyasa; for the highest of heels and those mini skirts; there is more to us than bikinis and designer clothes; we believe in our dreams and in the impossible; we believe in positive change; we believe in today”.

How are we more than bikinis and designer clothes when the line above says we’re for heels and mini skirts? It doesn’t compute.

Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine. (That Katy Perry song really pissed me off.)
