Style Help Has Arrived On The Grid, And Not A Minute Too Soon

By Julie Soderlund

The irony in my writing anything about style is rich. If you had ever seen my poorly organized closet that looks like a grey, black and white loving, obsessive deal shopping, and totally unimaginative busy person bought every single item in it, you would see the word “style” and my byline in the same post and move right along. Lucky for me, you have never seen my closet (and never will) and therefore are still reading. And you will be happy you did because help has arrived on the grid for those of you who like me, don’t mean to have a closet full of blah, but just really don’t know what to do/don’t have the time to invest.

Sacramento’s style challenged, meet Sacramento’s style saviors: Mary Gonsalves Kinney and Michael Gonsalves – the dynamic duo behind Sister|Brother, Sacramento’s first, new, and much needed, styling company.

The truth is I want a closet full of clothes that fit well, give me appropriate options for whatever event I have to attend whether it’s a business dinner or Kings game, and at the same time convey something about my personality and sense of style. I just need someone who has time to focus on my wardrobe and a clue about how to put a look together. And that is where Mary and Michael come in.

As Mary puts it, Sister|Brother style is about “helping people in Sacramento find their fashion foot and put it forward in a way that inspires confidence.”

Not only do Mary and Michael blog regularly with extremely helpful style tips for those DIY oriented types out there, but they also offer a fully array of services including a closet clean out (yes please!), individual styling, special occasion styling (think upcoming holiday parties), personal shopping and a host of other services that you can check out on their very chic web site at www.sisterbrotherstyle.com.

As native Sacramentans, Mary and Michael have also made promoting the local fashion community a first priority. Every week they offer an exclusive discount at a local business or boutique on their blog. For example, this week it’s $40 off tall boots and $15 off UGGS or rain boots at Franco Ferrini Shoes. Earlier this week they featured looks for fall and winter found at local retailers in an interview with KCRA3 – check it out here: http://www.kcra.com/video/25798526/detail.html.

Sister|Brother’s commitment to the Sacramento community does not stop with promoting local businesses. Sister|Brother’s official launch party “Fashion Gives Back” is this Friday night, November 19 at 8pm at Lounge on 20.

Not only is this an opportunity to meet the dynamic style duo and celebrate the official launch of this new venture, but all proceeds from the event will go to support the Capital City AIDS Fund. Support a good cause, meet Mary and Michael, and check out some of this season’s hottest fashion (BONUS: Our very own Jamie Romas is one of the models!). Tickets are $35 for general admission and available at www.sisterbrotherstyle.com.
