Join Maria Shriver at Cafeteria 15L to Support Best Buddies Challenge
By Jamie Romas
Endurance events, from 5Ks and marathons to bike rides and triathlons, can help you get into great physical shape; provide a psychological challenge; and introduce you to new people and experiences. Most importantly, they often support a good cause – like the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle, a 100-mile bike ride from Carmel to San Simeon on September 11, 2010, which benefits Best Buddies International.
Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that enables one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. First Lady of California Maria Shriver serves as Honorary Chair of this event; and in the spirit of her mother Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Founder of the Special Olympics, she is bringing friends and family together to form TEAM MARIA.
On June 23rd, TEAM MARIA will host an event at Cafeteria 15L with Maria Shriver – and her brother and Best Buddies Founder Anthony Shriver – to raise money and awareness for Best Buddies.
The benefit is being sponsored by a number of Sacramento businesses, and will include complimentary appetizers, a raffle, and a silent auction. Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door, but one lucky GOTG reader will win two free tickets! All you need to do is answer the following: what year was Best Buddies founded? The first to answer correctly wins the tickets!
And if you’re in the mood for a challenge, it’s not too late to sign up for the Audi Best Buddies Challenge on September 11th. In addition to the 100-mile bike ride, there are 62, 35, and 15-mile rides, as well as a 3K walk and 5K run led by Olympian Carl Lewis. The event culminates with a gourmet BBQ on the Heart Ranch and private concert by Natasha Bedingfield (!) Hope to see everyone there!
