The “Best of Beauty” Series: Mission 2: Secret Beauty Weapons

By Caroline Silveira

I use a few beauty products that are hard to categorize as anything other than little secret weapons in your beauty arsenal!  Some I use every day, and some just when needed, but all of these will help you look your best…

Paula Dorf Eye Primer

This creamy eye primer helps to lighten and smooth your eyelids so that eyeshadow goes on truer and lasts longer.  Just lightly pat a small amount onto your eyelid and then apply whatever other eye makeup you wear.

LipFusion Lip Plumper

You must maintain realistic expectations with lip plumpers:  they’re not really going to make your lips look any larger.  But this one plumps the lines in your lips so that they look smoother, and therefore slightly fuller, and really moisturized. Put it on while you get ready in the morning, and when you’re ready to go, you’ll be surprised how nice your lips look.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs

This aerosol spray seems like it would be messy, but it’s easy to apply and stays put.  It’s best for when you have failed to apply your self-tanner correctly and look a little picket.  It helps add a little color or smooth out any little unsightliness you may have going on. And, the color is not at all orangey! Application tip: Just spray it into your hands and rub on (and then immediately wash your hands).

Boscia Blot Papers

If you get a little oily throughout the day, you must have these blot papers in your bag.  I’m sure many blot papers do the job, but I like these because they aren’t as crinkly or loud.  Tip:  Instead of piling powder on top of oily skin, blot it up with these first.  Then, if you want to touch up, go ahead.

Marrakesh Oil Hair Styling Elixir

So, I think just about everyone has jumped on the Moroccan Oil train at this point, but I have something new for you to try! I don’t know about you, but I don’t care for the overbearing fragrance in Moroccan Oil products.  So, I recommend Marrakesh Oil Hair Styling Elixir as a replacement product for the leave-in treatment/styler.  It smells more like vanilla and brown sugar – yum! Bonus:  In addition to Moroccan’s magic ingredient argan oil, it contains hemp-seed oil – so it’s more concentrated, which means you use less. I prefer it! You can get it at Jane Salon at 3258 J Street. And, if you mention GOTG, Jane Salon will discount the Marrakesh $5 off!

So, now that I’ve shared with you some of my beauty secret weapons, I hope you will return the favor and tell me what your fave’s are!

I love the Marrakesh too. It is one, in a long line of excellent products from Earthly Body. I could not live without the 3 in 1, Suntouched skin moisturizing body candle. My skin is very dry, so at night I slather it on my hands legs and feet, put on some socks and enjoy!

You are soooo right about the first 3 products. I can’t live without them. I don’t need blotting papers for my dry skin, but I can’t wait to try the Marrakesh Elixir. Thanks for being our guinea pig!!

I lo-ove Jergens Natural Glow moistuizer in the firming formula. It goes on easy and truly does build a tan after multiple applications, but not like a crazy orange self tanner. It also has the most subtle bronze sparkles in it which adds a little color as well. Not to mention the price is right.
