Red-Hot Fashion for V-day
By Devon Carey Berrier
I have never been one to buy into the hype around Valentine’s Day. Yes, I like getting pretty flowers and romantic cards (a hand-written love poem doesn’t hurt, either), but I like that stuff every day of the year—not just on one day.
I do, however, LOVE to get dressed up and go out for a nice meal or drinks. And Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to try out a new look–a romantic wavy hair style or pretty pink lips with Brigitte Bardot eyeliner. It also is the best excuse for getting a new outfit. So whether you are going out with girlfriends for cocktails and dancing, having a romantic dinner with your lover, or staying in for a romantic evening at home, Valentine’s is the holiday to wear something seductive and fun. Here are some ideas to make your V-Day flirty and fashionable…
Cocktails With The Girls
Just because you may not have a “Special Someone” you want to spend Valentine’s Day with, doesn’t mean you need to sit around and mope eating gallons of Big Spoon yogurt while watching Sex and the City re-runs. Take a hint from Carrie and the girls, get out your stilettos and your hottest dress and celebrate the day of love with the women in your life.
This Diane von Furstenberg “Keena” dress is made to be worn out on the town—the chiffon print is gorgeous but also a bit funky and the fit is incredible. The side ruching and scoop back offer a flattering fit while still giving it some sex appeal. Don’t worry about the length—if you are leery of wearing a short dress, add solid black tights and black heels to finish the look. Because of the pattern in the dress, minimal accessories are needed—some fun earrings (oversized hoops) and bangles are all you need.
Romantic Dinner Out
Valentine’s Day is meant for lovers so a night out on the town with your main squeeze demands a romantic and hot ensemble. This LaROK dress is so beautiful and the name of the dress says it all: “Eye Candy”. The bright coral color is flattering to any skin tone and the shape and texture of the bodice make it figure friendly. Throw on some super high heels, a bracelet and some earrings and your outfit will be complete.
Dinner and Dessert at Home
I think one of the best ways to celebrate this holiday is with a homemade meal served by candlelight with lots of champagne and chocolate for dessert (or the meal!). To make this evening really special, throw on a little number that will get his mouth-watering–and not just for your made-from-scratch bacon mac & cheese. I love this Lace Apron Babydoll from Victoria’s Secret – What man could resist your vegan cooking if you serve it wearing this? I also love this boat-neck long-sleeve sheer lace tunic – it looks like a dress, but is such a tease! Wear this with lots of pearls and high heels and you will have a guaranteed exciting night at home.
Beauty Tips to Make Them Swoon
No outfit is complete without the right make-up. For a romantic and easy look, try these products:
For dramatic lined eyes: I LOVE this NARS eye-liner pen. It is so easy to use and creates a flawless line.
For the perfect peachy glow: Laura Mercier’s Cheek Color Duo in Whisper gives the perfect amount of bronze and sheen mixed with a beautiful pink to create a warm and girly look.
For the glossiest come-kiss-me lips: I was recently introduced to these Yves Saint Laurent “Gloss Pur” Lip Glosses and I am officially hooked. They are not too sticky, but feel moisturizing and thick, and have enough pigment to be worn without a lipstick underneath. Try the Pure Peach or Pure Rose to finish off a romantic face.
