Found: Best of Sacramento Etsy
By Laura Braden
I realize I’m a bit late to the game, but I just discovered Etsy.com and am completely obsessed.
Etsy is a global community of artisans, designers, crafters…sort of an amazon.com for unique, handmade/vintage products.
But it can be QUITE overwhelming to find that perfect item because there are literally thousands of “stores” and the search function isn’t the most advanced.
However, the following are some of my LOCAL favorites (broken down by category)…
Zen Threads (http://www.etsy.com/shop/zenthreads) has great graphic tees that are cute and clever without the short shelf life that sometimes tee’s from places like Urban Outfitters has (really, “Gettin Lucky in Kentucky” is so 2006). Prices are around $17 a piece, and you can pick the color of the tee and the design. FUN!
Ancora Vintage (http://www.etsy.com/shop/ancoravintage) has “Mad Men-like” clothing and a great selection of clutches. A small selection, but everything looks like it’s in great condition and the prices are right!
Tommy Gun Mardy’s (http://www.etsy.com/shop/TommyGunMardys) recycles vintage clothing and materials into modern designs (with the original charm intact!). All items are 100% one-of-a-kind and she has free shipping for all Californians.
CLOTHING + JEWELRY + HOME DECOR
Dahlia Found (http://www.etsy.com/shop/dahlilafound) has a great mix of “Anthropologie-like” (but amazing prices) clothing, accessories and house knick-knacks. She has a huge selection that’s regularly updated.
Kitchen Cupboard (http://www.etsy.com/shop/kitchencupboard) has a fun selection of vintage jewelry and housewares – everything from candles to cookie jars to glassware.
Veriska (http://www.etsy.com/shop/Veriska) sells beautiful, chunky vintage jewelry that’s you’re not going to see anywhere else.
FOR THE MUNCHKINS
Laundry Monster (http://www.etsy.com/shop/laundrymonster) carries downright CHIC burp cloths (and for only $5!!) and cute onesies with mushroom and tree graphics for the granola mommies in our lives.
LVK Paper Dolls (http://www.etsy.com/shop/LVKPaperDolls) is a cute concept for the lil princesses (or brides-to-be?) in our lives…she creates personalized/look-a-like paper dolls, which she draws by hand and includes 4-5 outfits.
EDITOR’s NOTE: Did we miss anything? A lot of my choices are vintage/retro because that’s my style. If that’s not your bag, I’d encourage you to explore because there’s really something for everyone.
