Found: Holiday Home Decor Inspirations
By Laura Braden
I try not to spend a lot of time being jealous – I find it exhausting and pointless. But when the green monster hits, it usually applies to artistic talent. I wish I could play the cello like Yo-Yo Ma or sing like Kelly Clarkson (stop laughing) or design clothes like Nanette Lepore or take pictures like Richard Avedon —- but I can’t. And when it comes to decorating my home, a simple trip to Pottery Barn can cause a full blown panic attack. I know what I like, but when faced with a wall of curtain choices, I suddenly can’t even remember what color my living room is.
Luckily, there are a few online “saviors” that have come to my rescue more times than I can count. Need headboard ideas? There’s a blog posting on that. Are you obsessed with glass lamps? There’s a blog posting on that. Need help decorating staircases? There’s a blog posting on that. Want 10 ways to arrange mirrors on a wall? There’s a blog posting on that, too.
And in time for the holidays, here are some of my favorite ideas (beautiful AND affordable) to decorate your home for parties and family gatherings…
Apartment Therapy showcases beautiful table settings – broken down into 5 color combos to coordinate with almost any color palette.
Door 16 (D16) profiles simple, almost indie/DIY ideas.
Hostess with the Mostess provides a variety of themed ideas like “Santa Baby.” What’s great about this site is that it provides you directions and photos – and she goes all out providing you menu ideas, how to decorate the tabletop, party favors and drink ideas.
And leave it to Martha Stewart to provide over a dozen Hanukkah decorating tips. My favorite is this branch menorah – so cute!
Last but not least, Better Homes & Gardens profiles 29 ways to incorporate candles into your holiday décor.
Like they say, those who can’t teach, link to those who can.
